Denmark to pledge 1 billion DKK to global education fund

Denmark has announced its intention to support the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) with up to 1 billion DKK between 2027 and 2030. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen made the announcement during a high-level event in New York held in conjunction with the UN General Assembly.

The proposed funding includes 250 million DKK in 2027. This contribution is intended to help strengthen education systems in low- and middle-income countries, particularly for marginalized children and youth. The GPE is currently facing significant financial pressure as several major donors are expected to reduce their contributions.

Minister Rasmussen stated that investing in global education serves both solidarity and Danish interests, noting that improved literacy and numeracy in the world's poorest countries can foster economic growth and create new markets for Danish businesses. The funding is subject to the 2027 budget proposal and subsequent annual approval by the Danish Parliament.
