Derek McInnes appointed Rangers manager after Hearts exit

Derek McInnes left his role as Heart of Midlothian manager to take charge of Rangers, signing a three‑year contract and bringing assistants Alan Archibald and Paul Sheerin, with Craig Clark joining from Kilmarnock. The move follows a compensation deal that paid Hearts around £600,000 as part of a £2 million settlement with departing Rangers boss Danny Rohl.

McInnes, a former Rangers player, said it was an honour to return to the club he grew up supporting and acknowledged the high expectations of supporters. He added that the club’s structure and leadership under chairman Andrew Cavenagh and chief executive Jim Gillespie gave him confidence to meet those demands. The appointment comes after McInnes guided Hearts to a strong season, finishing second to Celtic and narrowly missing the title on the final day, a disappointment he referenced in his parting statement.

Rangers aim to restore Scottish‑league dominance, and the new management team will begin pre‑season training immediately, with expectations of strengthening the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
