Dermatologists recommend specific skincare routines for summer protection

Dermatological experts recommend specific skincare strategies to manage skin health and prevent breakouts during summer months. While sun exposure may initially appear to improve acne due to anti-inflammatory effects, continued exposure can increase keratinization, leading to clogged pores and increased sebum production.

A recommended protective routine includes gentle cleansing, the use of antioxidant serums, and applying broad-spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen, which should be reapplied every two hours or after swimming. Experts emphasize that skin damage continues for hours after sun exposure, making post-sun repair essential.

Key active ingredients for skin recovery include DNA-repairing enzymes like photolyase and melatonin to combat oxidative damage. Additionally, retinoids are noted for their ability to reverse signs of photoaging by stimulating collagen synthesis and accelerating skin renewal. Individuals with lighter skin types (phototypes I and II) are identified as being particularly vulnerable to UV radiation.
