Dersingham GP murder investigation launched after woman found dead at home

A murder investigation is underway in Dersingham, Norfolk, following the death of a local general practitioner. The victim, identified as Dr Hannah Terry (also known as Hannah Cain), was found dead at her home in Fern Hill in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Reports indicate that Dr Terry was hosting a children's sleepover at her property, located near the Sandringham estate, at the time of the incident. Emergency services were called to the scene around 2:20 am, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police officers reportedly escorted the children present at the house back to their families during the night.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at the King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre. Detectives have applied to Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court for a warrant of further detention, which would grant them an additional 32 hours to question the suspect.

Dr Terry worked at Grimston Medical Centre, which announced its temporary closure on Monday, October 5, citing ‘extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team’. A police cordon remains in place at the residence as forensic investigations continue.
