Destry Damayanti nominated as sole candidate for Bank Indonesia Governor
President Prabowo Subianto has officially nominated Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia. The presidential letter (Surpres) was submitted to the DPR RI by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. Destry, who currently serves as the Acting Governor, is proposed to succeed Perry Warjiyo following his resignation in July 2026.
Destry’s nomination has received positive feedback from various financial institutions. Anggito Abimanyu, Chairman of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), described her as a “complete package” due to her extensive background at the Ministry of Finance, LPS, and Bank Indonesia. Similarly, Trimegah Sekuritas economist Fakhrul Fulvian characterized her as one of Indonesia’s most complete monetary technocrats, capable of navigating complex global challenges such as digitalization and geopolitical shifts.
The nomination must now undergo a fit and proper test by Commission XI of the DPR RI. Alongside the governorship, the President has also proposed candidates to fill vacancies for the Senior Deputy Governor and Deputy Governor positions at the central bank.
