Destry Damayanti undergoes vetting for Bank Indonesia governorship

Destry Damayanti, the current interim governor and senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia, underwent a fit and proper test before the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI on Wednesday. Nominated by President Prabowo Subianto following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo, Damayanti is poised to become the first female governor of the central bank if confirmed.

During her testimony, Damayanti outlined her vision of 'Red and White Synergy for the Welfare of the Indonesian People.' Her leadership plan is built upon three primary missions: maintaining the stability of the rupiah, payment systems, and the financial system; actively contributing to sustainable economic growth; and strengthening synergy with stakeholders through the 'Sinergi Merah Putih' program.

To achieve these goals, she proposed five strategic initiatives, including strengthening the policy mix to address external pressures and revitalizing foreign exchange traffic policies through digital supervision. Damayanti emphasized that while she seeks increased cooperation with state institutions to navigate complex global challenges—such as geopolitical risks and market volatility—this collaboration will not compromise Bank Indonesia's institutional independence.
