Detran-RO warns of driver's license scams via WhatsApp

The Rondônia Transit Department (Detran-RO) has issued a public alert regarding a scam involving fraudulent offers for the National Driver's License (CNH). Criminals are using messaging apps like WhatsApp to promise the issuance of licenses without the mandatory theoretical and practical exams.

The scam was reported to the Ciretran in Ouro Preto do Oeste after a resident received a proposal via WhatsApp from a number with a 62 area code. The fraudsters offered a cheaper rate than official procedures and attempted to gain credibility by sending images of falsified documents, including those featuring QR codes to mimic authenticity.

Authorities emphasize that obtaining a CNH requires following all legal procedures and mandatory testing. The primary objectives of these criminals are to steal money and personal data from victims. Citizens are advised to use only official channels and to distrust any offers promising irregular shortcuts.
