Deutsche Bahn completes preliminary planning for Brenner-Nordzulauf rail project
Deutsche Bahn (DB) has completed the preliminary planning phase for the Brenner-Nordzulauf, a major rail project intended to connect Munich with the Austrian border. The project aims to shift freight from road to rail and relieve existing capacity constraints in the Alpine region, complementing the future Brenner Base Tunnel scheduled for 2032.
DB InfraGO, the infrastructure subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, has identified a preferred route following technical investigations and regional consultations. The German Federal Ministry of Transport has submitted the planning documents to the Bundestag. The project is currently in the parliamentary consultation phase, where the Bundestag will deliberate on the results and regional requirements.
