Deutsche Bahn completes preliminary planning for Brenner North Access

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has completed the preliminary planning phase for the Brenner North Access project, a major railway infrastructure development intended to connect Munich to the Austrian border. The project aims to shift freight from road to rail and alleviate pressure on existing routes in the Alpine region, complementing the future Brenner Base Tunnel scheduled for completion in 2034.

DB InfraGO, the infrastructure subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, has identified a preferred route following technical investigations and regional consultations. The Federal Ministry of Transport has submitted the planning documents to the German Bundestag for parliamentary review and decision-making. The project is currently moving into the parliamentary engagement phase after successfully completing the initial route selection and preliminary planning stages.
