Deutsche Bahn faces service delays and criticism over construction works in Germany

Deutsche Bahn announced a series of repair works on routes around Magdeburg, leading to extensive timetable adjustments. From mid‑July to late August, speeds on the Magdeburg‑Stendal line at Zielitz will rise from 20 km/h to 50 km/h, and the Güterglück‑Zerbst section will see all RE13/RE14 services cancelled with substitute bus connections. Additional changes affect RE13, RB40, RE14, RE20 and regional S1 services, with altered departure times and shortened travel periods.

Separately, the Lower Saxony transport agency (LNVG) sharply criticised Deutsche Bahn for a short‑notice construction closure on a diversion track at Ehlershausen near Hannover, scheduled from 22 June to 5 July. The work impacts three S‑Bahn lines between Hannover and Celle, worsening replacement bus service and prompting complaints about inadequate passenger information and internal coordination. LNVG called for better preparation ahead of future corridor renovations scheduled for 2027‑2029.

Both developments highlight ongoing challenges in Germany’s rail infrastructure, with officials urging more reliable planning and communication to minimise passenger disruption.
