Deutsche Bahn to implement nationwide alcohol ban at stations
Deutsche Bahn is implementing a nationwide ban on alcohol consumption at approximately 5,400 stations across Germany, effective October 15, 2026. The measure aims to increase safety and will be enforced through the company’s right of domicile.
Under the new rules, drinking alcoholic beverages on station premises, including platforms, is prohibited. Violators may face a formal notice to leave the premises, and repeat offenses could result in a long-term ban from the stations.
The ban does not apply to the transport of alcohol; passengers may still carry sealed alcoholic beverages in luggage or bags. Additionally, station gastronomy, such as restaurants and bars located within the stations, is exempt from the rule, though consumption must cease once passengers move into public areas or onto platforms. Rules regarding alcohol consumption on trains remain subject to specific carrier conditions and existing onboard restaurant policies.
