Europe Dating Costs: Switzerland Most Expensive, Turkey Cheapest

A report titled ‘Mapping the World’s Prices 2026’ by the Deutsche Bank Research Institute reveals significant cost variations for dating across 28 European cities. The study utilizes a ‘Cheap Date Index’ based on crowdsourced data from Numbeo, which includes a basket of goods such as a bottle of wine, clothing (jeans and a dress), two coffees, a mid-range meal for two, cinema tickets, public transport, and a short taxi ride.

Switzerland ranks as the most expensive region, with Geneva costing €407 and Zurich at €400 for the index basket. Nordic cities also show high costs, with Oslo and Copenhagen tied at €323, followed by Stockholm at €310 and Helsinki at €296. Among major economies, London is the most expensive at €317, while Birmingham also appears in the top ten at €290.

In contrast, Istanbul is identified as the most affordable city, with the basket costing €168. Rome also remains relatively low-cost at €195. The average cost across the 28 surveyed cities is €270.
