Telekom and 1&1 raise internet prices in Germany
Deutsche Telekom and 1&1 have implemented price increases for various internet and television services in Germany. For new customers at Telekom, costs for DSL and fiber-optic connections have risen by one to two euros per month, while the MagentaTV SmartStream package increased from 17 to 20 euros. Existing Telekom customers are generally unaffected unless they change their contract. 1&1 has also raised prices for some existing customers, with monthly increases of up to three euros affecting certain DSL and fiber-optic tariffs.
Telekom cited rising energy costs, inflation, and the need to fund fiber-optic expansion as reasons for the adjustments. 1&1 similarly pointed to rising operational and energy costs.
Separately, United Internet is undergoing a strategic transformation. Its subsidiary Ionos is cutting 450 jobs in Karlsruhe to focus on cloud business and artificial intelligence. Additionally, 1&1 versatel in Düsseldorf is reducing its workforce by 350 positions to improve productivity and restructure its IT and organizational frameworks.
