German telecommunications price increases

Overview

Telecommunications providers in Germany, including 1&1 and Deutsche Telekom, have implemented price increases for internet and television services.

Initially, 1&1 confirmed monthly base price increases of up to 3 euros for various DSL and fiber optic tariffs, affecting both existing and new customers. This also impacted sim24, a brand within the Drillisch portfolio. 1&1 attributed these adjustments to rising operational and energy costs.

Following this, Deutsche Telekom also raised prices for internet and TV packages. For Deutsche Telekom, new customers face monthly increases of up to five euros on combined packages, with specific DSL and fiber optic tariffs rising by one to two euros. The MagentaTV SmartStream package increased from 17 to 20 euros per month. Existing Telekom customers are generally unaffected unless they change their contract. Deutsche Telekom cited rising energy costs, high inflation, and the requirement to fund investments in fiber optic network expansion as reasons for the adjustments.
