Deutsche Telekom expands fiber optic network in Germany
Deutsche Telekom is accelerating its fiber optic expansion across Germany. In September, the company added 255,000 new fiber optic connections, an increase from the 222,000 connections established in August. While this shows an upward trend in deployment speed, it did not reach the record of 273,000 connections set in July.
By the third quarter of 2026, the company's fiber optic network reached a total length of over 900,000 kilometers, providing up to 2,000 Mbit/s speeds to 14.4 million households and businesses. In Frankfurt's Schwanheim district, a major construction phase has begun to provide approximately 11,000 customers with high-speed access. This specific project is being self-financed by Telekom without public subsidies and is expected to be completed by spring 2028.
Beyond fiber, Telekom continues to support 38 million households via copper cables and offers hybrid connections combining DSL with LTE or 5G for approximately 500,000 users.
