Deutsche Telekom expands fiber‑optic network to villages in Bavaria and Thuringia

Deutsche Telekom has been awarded the contract to build a fiber‑optic network in the Bavarian municipality of Trabitz. The rollout will cover 562 households across several localities, with more than 102 km of cable and 14 new distribution points, aiming for completion by 2029. Local officials including mayor Carmen Pepiuk attended the contract signing.

In the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld, the operator will begin a subsidised fibre build‑out in the Breitenbach district of Leinefelde‑Worbis in early September 2026. The project, managed with contractor Störmer Bau GmbH, will lay over ten kilometres of cable, install eight new distribution units and is expected to finish by the end of 2026. Local mayor Christian Hänsel‑Hunold highlighted the importance of high‑speed connectivity for residents and businesses. Both networks will provide speeds of up to 1 000 Mbit/s.
