Deutschlandticket price expected to rise in 2027

The price of the Deutschlandticket is expected to increase in 2027. While the exact amount has not been officially finalized, it is scheduled to be announced by September 30, 2026, for implementation on January 1, 2027.

For the first time, the 2027 price will be determined by a specific formula rather than through political negotiations. This index accounts for rising personnel, energy, and general operating costs in public transport, alongside a value factor that considers that federal and state subsidies do not automatically scale with rising costs. One calculation suggests the price could rise from 63 euros to approximately 66.90 euros.

There will be no nationwide social or senior discount for the ticket. Instead, any reduced rates for retirees or individuals receiving social benefits will depend on the specific federal state, municipality, or transport association. While the federal government has allocated 3 billion euros in annual subsidies through 2030, critics argue that rising costs—driven by factors like diesel prices—may continue to push ticket prices upward despite these funds.
