Developer compresses Windows 11 onto 700 MB CD
A developer known as NTDEV has created an experimental version of Windows 11 that fits onto a traditional 700 MB CD-ROM. Using a tool currently under development called Pico11, the developer reduced the installation image to approximately 699.8 MB, a significant reduction from the several gigabytes required for a standard installation.
In demonstrations conducted via a virtual machine with 4 GB of RAM, the operating system successfully booted and provided a functional desktop environment. Despite the extreme compression, the system remains capable of running basic applications such as Paint, Notepad, and Calculator. The developer noted that while the interface remains similar to the conventional version, certain elements, such as the Task Manager, utilize a more simplified, older interface reminiscent of previous Windows versions.
