Devesa del Saler regeneration efforts accelerated by Valencia authorities
The Valencia City Council and the Generalitat Valenciana are accelerating administrative procedures to begin the regeneration of the Devesa del Saler following a recent wildfire that affected approximately 37 hectares. Officials, including Mayor María José Catalá and Environment Minister Vicente Martínez Mus, met to coordinate short, medium, and long-term recovery actions.
A priority is the urgent modification of the local forest fire prevention plan to incorporate new firebreaks and adapt natural park regulations. To assess the actual damage to the vegetation, the Centre d'Estudis Ambientals del Mediterrani (CEAM) will conduct a severity report. This analysis will determine whether the recovery strategy should focus on natural regeneration or require selective logging and new plantations.
While the fire is contained, firefighting teams continue to monitor the area using thermal cameras and drones to manage hotspots emerging from the peatland subsoil. Due to extreme temperatures and red alerts, defensive water systems remain active to protect urban areas and the forest.
