DGCCRF uncovers fraud in French organic food sector

The French Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) has released the results of its inspections regarding sustainable food products. Between 2024 and 2025, investigators audited more than 4,800 professionals involved in the production or sale of organic products.

The findings revealed significant irregularities and deceptive practices. Approximately 15.5% of the inspected professionals faced corrective or repressive measures, including over 650 injunctions for compliance and more than 130 criminal reports. The highest rates of anomalies were observed within the retail and service sectors.

Common fraudulent practices identified include: • Presenting non-organic products as organic. • Failing to provide certification from an authorized body or failing to notify the organic agency of business activities. • Using additives prohibited in organic farming. • Non-compliance with organic labeling regulations, such as omitting the origin of raw materials or the certification body's identification number despite using the AB logo.
