DGMA launches Seafarer Tracking Module to monitor Indian sailors

The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) has launched a Seafarer Tracking Module on its e-NAVIC portal to monitor Indian seafarers on both Indian and foreign-flagged vessels.

The initiative responds to heightened maritime security threats and geopolitical tensions in several high-risk regions, including the Strait of Hormuz, Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Bab-el-Mandeb, Black Sea, and Somalia. The DGMA aims to establish a mechanism for monitoring personnel in these areas to facilitate timely information, coordination, and prompt responses during emergencies.

The module is currently in a beta version. Recruitment and Placement Service Licencees (RPSLs) and shipping companies have been instructed to update the system with vessel identification, voyage data, seafarer details, and positional information.
