DGNB launches sustainability training for construction trades

The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) has launched a specialized training program designed to provide sustainability expertise to the construction trades. The initiative utilizes regional on-site courses conducted in cooperation with specialist retailers to ensure widespread knowledge transfer.

To encourage participation among smaller enterprises, the DGNB has introduced new membership categories. Craft businesses with up to nine employees can now join the network for an annual fee starting at 250 euros. This move aims to embed sustainable building expertise within smaller structural components of the construction industry.

Industry data highlights the urgency of this transition, noting that the building sector accounts for approximately 34 percent of global energy demand and 37 percent of CO2 emissions. Future trends in the sector are expected to include increased electrification, the use of artificial intelligence in building control, and enhanced energy resilience.
