DGNB sustainability initiatives in construction

Overview

The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) has expanded its initiatives to promote sustainability across different sectors of the construction and exhibition industries.

Initially, the DGNB launched a specialized training program for construction trades, utilizing regional on-site courses and cooperation with retailers to transfer expertise. To support smaller enterprises, the council introduced new membership categories for craft businesses with up to nine employees.

Following this, the DGNB released a new guide titled ‘Nachhaltige Messestände: Leitlinien für Planung, Umsetzung und Betrieb’ to address the environmental impact of trade fair stands. This guide focuses on circularity, modular construction, and resource management. A streamlined certification process for exhibitors and designers is scheduled to launch in January 2027 at the BAU trade fair in Munich.
