DGSPC prepares new correctional centers in Higüey

The General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) has begun gathering information to facilitate the transfer of inmates to new correctional facilities in Anamuya, Higüey. These upcoming centers are designed to house approximately 550 individuals, including 470 from the La Colón provisional detention center and 80 from the CPL Higüey Mujeres, both of which are currently under National Police custody.

The new complex includes the CCR-Higüey Mujeres center, a three-level module featuring dining areas, classrooms, workshops, a beauty salon, housing, a library, and outdoor spaces for sports and vegetable cultivation. A separate provisional detention center for men will consist of two three-level modules. Additionally, a pre-trial module will be established to manage alternative prison measures in coordination with justice operators. The project aims to improve order and dignify detention conditions in the La Altagracia province.
