Dhaka police arrest 546 suspects in massive 24-hour crime crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted an extensive 24-hour crackdown across the capital, resulting in the arrest of 546 individuals involved in various crimes. The operation led to the filing of 61 cases and the recovery of firearms, narcotics, and equipment used by criminal gangs.

Among the arrests, the Detective Branch (DB) apprehended six suspects in the Shahbagh area who were allegedly preparing for robberies by impersonating law enforcement officers. Police recovered toy pistols, a toy magazine, a toy walkie-talkie, handcuffs, and three jackets labeled ‘DB’. The suspects have been placed on two-day police remand to investigate the full extent of their impersonation ring and to locate accomplices.

During the broader city-wide raids, authorities seized one foreign pistol with nine rounds of ammunition, 13,870 pieces of Yaba, nearly 2 kg of cannabis, 13.8 grams of heroin, and 210 bottles of Escap. Additionally, police rescued three kidnap or hostage victims during the operations.
