DHL expands German logistics footprint with new sites in Cologne and Thuringia
DHL is expanding its logistics footprint in Germany through two significant infrastructure projects.
In Cologne-Marsdorf, DHL Express has opened a new facility following a 40 million euro investment. The site features 5,500 square meters of production and office space on a 20,000 square meter plot. The facility includes a high-tech sorting system capable of processing up to 6,000 packages per hour and is designed with sustainability in mind, utilizing a photovoltaic system, a heat pump, and extensive charging stations for electric delivery vehicles.
In Thuringia, DHL Supply Chain is constructing a 30,000 square meter warehouse in Apolda, scheduled for completion in March 2027. The site will provide 27,000 square meters of storage and 2,300 square meters of office space. This investment aims to support growing sectors such as healthcare, electric batteries, and semiconductors, while serving regional clients like Zeiss. The facility is targeting Gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and is expected to employ up to 120 people by the end of 2028.
