Diana Buzoianu reports progress on coastal legality and water infrastructure

Interim Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu has reported improvements regarding illegal constructions on the Romanian coast. Following a series of inspections and strict measures, Buzoianu stated that the number of economic operators violating the law has visibly decreased, making the beaches more attractive.

However, the Minister noted that some operators have taken the Ministry to court to suspend fines. She observed that courts in Constanța have decided to analyze the suspension of these fines after the summer season concludes. Buzoianu expressed hope that the legal system will uphold the law against those violating regulations.

In separate developments regarding infrastructure, Buzoianu announced that 297 kilometers of water service works funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) have reached the reception stage. She claimed this exceeds the targets set by the PNRR, which she stated will provide quality public services to thousands of Romanians by 2026.

Additionally, the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant has suspended activity following the controlled shutdown of Reactor 1 and the subsequent stoppage of the second reactor. This follows challenges related to water levels in the Danube affecting the cooling system, an issue for which Buzoianu attributed failure to a specific landform during water redirection attempts.
