Diana Morant joins Valencia DANA commission and vows to run for Generalitat presidency

Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities Diana Morant was placed on the mixed commission dealing with the DANA disaster reconstruction in Valencia, despite not having reconstruction responsibilities. The move, made by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, is viewed by Valencian political circles as an electoral showcase ahead of the May 2027 regional elections. The commission oversees €1.7 billion in government funds, of which municipalities have reportedly spent only about 5‑6%, fueling local frustration.

Later, Morant announced to the PSOE Federal Committee that she will submit her candidacy for the PSPV‑PSOE primary to become the party’s candidate for the Presidency of the Generalitat Valenciana. She framed the decision as a response to the need for alternative policies to those of the PP, citing the handling of the DANA victims and education issues as examples.
