Diana Morant confirmed as PSPV candidate
Overview
In late June 2026 the Valencian branch of Spain’s Socialist Party (PSPV‑PSOE) began formal preparations for Diana Morant’s bid for the Generalitat, announcing primary windows for July, September and November ahead of the 2027 regional elections. By early July she had launched a hometown campaign in Gandia, presented her candidacy, and was ratified as the party’s official candidate, becoming the first woman to head the PSPV ticket in more than four decades while retaining her role as Spain’s minister of Science, Innovation and Universities.
On 1 August the PSPV announced a two‑day political programme conference in Alicante for 19‑20 September, promoted by Morant. The event, held at the University of Alicante, will bring together party leaders, trade‑union representatives and a range of left‑wing “influencers” and historic figures such as Sarah Santaolalla, Manuela Carmena and Cristina Almeida. Under the slogan “Recuperar lo que importa”, participants will draft a ten‑year programme (2027‑2037) covering welfare, housing, employment, climate response, education and regional identity. Workshops, informal debates and cultural activities are planned to broaden outreach after Morant’s earlier gaffe at a proclamation event in Gandia, signalling the next phase of her campaign ahead of the regional elections.
