Diana Morant says Valencian Community is her exclusive priority while serving as science minister

Diana Morant, Spain’s minister of Science, Innovation and Universities and secretary‑general of the Valencian Socialist Party (PSPV), told reporters at the Horchata Day event in Alboraya that her "unique and exclusive" priority is the Valencian Community. She argued that the national government does more for the region than the regional council, citing measures such as reduced student‑teacher ratios, support for the ceramics sector and tripling aid after the recent floods. Morant defended recent budget cuts affecting NGOs and gender‑violence assistance, calling the reductions "lamentable".

Morant, who is the PSPV’s candidate for the 2027 Valencian regional election, said she will remain in her ministerial post in Madrid until she is convinced that the region requires her full attention. She maintains that her presence in the national cabinet brings influence and benefits for Valencia, even as polls show low public awareness of her (about 70% of Spaniards do not know her) and a modest approval rating of 4.67 out of 10. Her statements come amid internal party debates about how best to challenge the right‑wing opposition in the upcoming election.
