Die Linke faces controversy over rapper's appearance in Berlin

A controversy has emerged in Berlin following a campaign appearance by rapper Dahabflex at an event for the Die Linke party in Neukölln. The rapper’s lyrics, which include phrases such as ‘Yalla Yalla Intifada’ and ‘Death to the IDF’, have drawn intense scrutiny.

Critics and political figures, including Die Linke’s Berlin lead candidate Elif Eralp, have called for clarification and consequences. Critics argue that slogans calling for the death of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) constitute antisemitism by effectively calling for the destruction of the Israeli state. Some reports suggest that the Neukölln district association of Die Linke had previously demonstrated problematic attitudes toward Israel through social media posts regarding the Nakba.

Dahabflex has defended his performance, stating that his use of the term ‘Intifada’ refers to resistance against occupation and oppression rather than violence against civilians. He argued that rap music utilizes exaggeration and that interpreting his lyrics as direct calls for murder is an absurd distortion of his artistic intent.
