Diego Boneta to portray Fidel Castro in Killing Castro

Mexican actor Diego Boneta will portray Fidel Castro in the upcoming film ‘Killing Castro’, directed by Eif Rivera. The production focuses on a specific five-day period in 1960 when Castro traveled to New York to deliver his first speech before the United Nations General Assembly.

The film explores the historical context of the Cold War, featuring encounters between Castro and figures such as Malcolm X and Nikita Khrushchev. The plot also involves the intersection of interests between international intelligence agencies and United States political figures. Al Pacino stars in the film as an American agent tasked with eliminating Castro.

During a screening at the Morelia International Film Festival, Boneta addressed the political weight of the role, noting that he underwent eighteen months of rigorous preparation and consulted historians to approach the controversial figure responsibly. Boneta, who also served as an executive producer, emphasized that the film is not a full biography but a focused historical drama.
