Release of film Killing Castro

Overview

Mexican actor Diego Boneta is set to portray Fidel Castro in the historical drama ‘Killing Castro’, directed by Eif Rivera. The film focuses on a five-day period in 1960 during Castro’s first speech before the United Nations General Assembly, exploring Cold War dynamics and encounters with figures such as Malcolm X and Nikita Khrushchev. Al Pacino stars as an American agent tasked with eliminating Castro.

During the 24th Morelia International Film Festival, Boneta presented the project, noting that he underwent eighteen months of rigorous preparation and consulted historians to approach the controversial figure responsibly. Boneta, who also served as an executive producer, emphasized that the film is a focused historical drama rather than a full biography, aiming for historical accuracy despite the political complexities of the role.
