Diego Sebastián Rosen faces trial for Meléndez family murders

Legal proceedings are advancing in the case involving the multi-homicide of Jonathan Meléndez, a keyboardist for the band Camilo Séptimo, his pregnant wife, their young daughter, and a caregiver. A judge in the State of Mexico has formally linked Diego Sebastián Rosen and Gerardo N to the process, ordering them to remain in pretrial detention.

Rosen’s legal representative, Rodrigo Pastrana, has alleged that the businessman has been subjected to physical aggression and torture while in custody. Pastrana stated that Rosen is experiencing hallucinations and a distorted sense of reality, noting that the client’s mental state has made legal defense difficult. The attorney indicated the possibility of withdrawing from the case due to these complications and ethical disagreements.

Conversely, Hugo Salgado, the attorney representing the Meléndez family, has contradicted these claims, disputing the version of Rosen’s behavior presented by the defense.

The motive for the September 1 attack in Atizapán is reportedly economic. Authorities, including the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office and Federal Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch, suggest the crime was committed to access cryptocurrency keys valued at approximately 30 million pesos.
