Diego Simeone defends Ademola Lookman after Madrid derby appearance

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has reaffirmed his support for Ademola Lookman following the player's limited role in the club's 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the Madrid derby. Lookman, a Nigerian international, was introduced as a substitute in the 67th minute, replacing Alex Baena while Atletico held a 2-0 lead.

Despite the player's inability to influence the scoreline during his time on the pitch, Simeone emphasized Lookman's unique tactical value. The manager described the forward as a player with a specific profile that the squad lacks, noting his decisiveness in one-on-one situations near the edge of the box.

Simeone acknowledged that while Lookman's start to the season has been difficult and he needs to enter matches with more impact, the attacker remains a vital part of the team's plans regardless of his total minutes played.
