Dien Bien authorities recover 10 sets of martyr remains

Authorities in Dien Bien Province are continuing efforts to locate and recover the remains of soldiers killed during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign over 70 years ago. On September 21, the provincial Steering Committee for the Search, Recovery, and Identification of Martyr Remains conducted excavations to recover 10 sets of remains in Dien Bien Phu Ward.

These remains were identified through information provided by local citizens and witnesses. The recovery included nine graves located at the Him Lam People's Cemetery and one grave found in a residential garden in the Him Lam area. One local resident, Hoang Thanh Hung, reported that he and others had discovered bones and artifacts while digging foundations for a house years ago and had preserved them.

Following the excavation, the remains were transported to the Tong Khao Martyrs' Cemetery in Thanh Nua Commune for documentation and burial procedures. Officials are collecting biological samples for DNA testing to assist in the formal identification of the fallen soldiers.
