Fuel markets face volatility as diesel prices rise in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Global and regional fuel markets are facing significant volatility. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, diesel prices have risen to an average of 3.79 KM per liter, with warnings from transport associations that prices could reach 5 KM per liter due to Middle East conflicts and market disruptions. The country faces additional vulnerabilities as it lacks a state-mandated strategic fuel reserve system similar to the EU.

On a global scale, diesel supply is tightening due to a nearly 30 percent drop in Russian production following refinery attacks and export restrictions. Additionally, U.S. diesel stocks have fallen to their lowest levels for this time of year since 1982.

In Germany, rising fuel costs have led to an increase in fuel theft at gas stations, prompting some operators to lock pumps at night. Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina reported that its financial system remained stable through 2025 despite inflationary pressures and geopolitical tensions.
