Late‑July attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and a blockade of the Bab al‑Mandab corridor pushed crude above $100 /bbl, lifting German and Austrian pump prices beyond €2 again. The ADAC reported only marginal on‑ground changes, while ÖAMTC reiterated its demand and TotalEnergies reinstated French price caps. Analysts warn that reopening the Hormuz route could generate an oversupply by 2026‑27, potentially pulling barrel prices down to around $68.

Following the US‑Iran agreement on 18 June that reopened the Strait of Hormuz, Brent fell to about $79 /bbl, allowing French diesel to trade near €1.94 /l and unleaded 95‑E10 under €1.92 /l, with motorists saving €5‑10 per full tank in August. France’s traffic‑monitoring agency Bison Futé warned of high‑risk congestion days in August and advised travelers to shift trips to mid‑week to avoid bottlenecks.

The German Economic Institute (DIW) cautioned that, despite stable crude and refined‑product supplies, Persian Gulf tensions keep European fuel prices high in the short term; Brent has hovered around $100 /bbl. DIW economist Franziska Holz called for reduced fuel consumption across Germany and the EU.
