Dietary potassium and isometric exercises found to lower blood pressure

Recent research highlights two effective dietary and physical interventions for managing hypertension. A study led by Professor Naomi Fukagawa at the University of Vermont, published in the ‘American Journal of Clinical Nutrition’, suggests that increasing potassium intake alongside reducing sodium can significantly improve blood pressure reduction. The researchers recommend consuming potassium-rich foods such as bananas, avocados, apricots, and lamb's lettuce to complement salt reduction.

Additionally, a meta-analysis of 270 controlled studies involving nearly 16,000 participants conducted by researchers in England found that isometric exercises, specifically the wall sit, are highly effective at lowering resting blood pressure. The study revealed that static holding exercises reduced systolic blood pressure by an average of eight points and diastolic pressure by four points, outperforming traditional endurance training in effectiveness for blood pressure management.
