Dietary strategies and research focus on blood sugar management
Nutritional strategies and dietary choices play a critical role in managing blood glucose levels and preventing diabetes. Experts emphasize that healthy eating and regular physical activity are fundamental pillars for diabetes management, as noted by the World Health Organization.
To maintain stable blood sugar, certain morning beverages are recommended. Water is considered the optimal choice as it contains no calories or carbohydrates and does not alter glucose levels. Unsweetened tea, coffee, and yerba mate are also viable low-calorie alternatives. However, health professionals warn that hydration alone cannot compensate for a breakfast high in refined carbohydrates or sugars.
In Spain, researchers from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Royal National Academy of Medicine are conducting the Metacarob project. This study investigates the potential benefits of carob flour for individuals with prediabetes and obesity. The research aims to determine if consuming a dairy drink supplemented with carob flour can increase satiety and prevent glucose spikes in patients over the age of 40.
