Digital Agency releases compatible Android models for My Number Card
Japan's Digital Agency has released an updated list of Android smartphones compatible with the My Number Card system. This functionality allows users to add their digital ID to the Google Wallet app to facilitate identity and age verification for various in-person services.
Starting October 20, a new “attribute certification function” will be introduced. This feature enables users to prove specific details such as name, address, date of birth, gender, and photo. This is intended for use in scenarios like opening bank accounts, municipal services, and age verification at establishments such as restaurants.
While many Android devices support the existing electronic certificate functions, only a subset of newer models provides full support for the new attribute certification feature. Compatible models include recent series from Pixel (6 and later), AQUOS (R9 pro, sense10 and later), Xperia (1 VI and later), and Galaxy (S24 and later), among others. Users are advised to ensure their devices are updated to Android 12 or higher with the latest security patches.
