Digital Cooperation Organization and ESCWA sign AI and digital economy pact
The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to foster cooperation in developing the digital economy and promoting the responsible and inclusive use of artificial intelligence.
The agreement, signed by ESCWA Executive Secretary Rania Al-Mashat and DCO Secretary-General Deema bint Yahya Al-Yahya, follows a strategic meeting held in June 2026. The initial phase of cooperation focuses on two primary tracks: developing the digital economy through policy implementation, institutional capacity building, and investment readiness; and preparing for responsible AI through diagnostic tools, policy support, and skill development.
The partnership aims to assist Arab nations in accelerating digital transformation and ensuring their innovators have a stronger voice in global discussions regarding data and AI governance. A joint action plan is expected to outline specific activities for 2027 by the end of this year.
