Digital Cooperation Organisation expansion and partnerships

Overview

The Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) has undergone significant expansion and strategic partnership development. In August 2026, the organization increased its membership from 16 to 24 countries, adding nations such as Kenya, Albania, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, the State of Palestine, Syria, and Zambia, with Tajikistan joining as an Associate Member.

DCO Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya noted that this expansion encompasses approximately 980 million people, or about 12 percent of the global population. The growth is intended to allow member nations to collectively shape emerging rules for artificial intelligence, data, and cross-border trade.

Following this expansion, the DCO signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in September 2026. This pact focuses on fostering the digital economy and promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence. The cooperation aims to assist Arab nations in digital transformation and policy implementation, with a joint action plan for 2027 expected to be outlined by the end of the year.
