Digital driver’s licenses rollout expands in the US and Mexico

Apple announced that its digital driver’s license feature in the Wallet app, now active in 14 US states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, will be added to Oklahoma, marking the fifteenth state to receive the service. The company first introduced the capability in 2021 and encourages users to store a digitized version of their driver’s license on iPhone or Apple Watch, though it advises keeping the physical card as a backup.

In Mexico City, the Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) confirmed that the digital driver’s license available through the CDMX app holds the same legal validity as a physical license nationwide. The digital license, which has been recognized across Mexico since October 2022, can be obtained by existing physical‑license holders through an online portal, with a fee of 1,500 pesos for a permanent digital credential.
