Digital literacy initiatives support seniors in Jena, Germany

In Jena, Germany, digital literacy initiatives for senior citizens have reached significant milestones. The ProbierLaden at Engelplatz reported serving 6,979 people over its first two years, with 79 percent of visitors aged 66 or older. Most of these interactions involved individual one-on-one support, while others participated in structured courses.

Complementing these efforts, the JEDI Smart City project recorded approximately 8,500 participations through 300 free events. Other regional programs include student-led support in Winnenden, where high schoolers assist seniors with mobile devices and receive guidance on internet crime prevention, and the 'Agenda Älterwerden' working group in Emsdetten, which provides training for video conferencing systems.
