Digital literacy movement expands across rural Vietnam

The “Digital Mass Education” movement is expanding across Vietnam, specifically targeting rural, highland, and ethnic minority areas in provinces like Quang Ninh and Lao Cai to bridge the technological divide.

In Quang Ninh, community digital technology teams are visiting individual households to provide hands-on instruction. Residents are being taught to use smartphones, activate VNeID electronic identification accounts, perform online administrative procedures, and utilize digital tools for tourism promotion. Local authorities have also organized training sessions covering digital signatures, cashless payments, and cybersecurity awareness to prevent online fraud.

In Lao Cai, the initiative focuses on empowering ethnic minority communities by integrating digital skills into daily life. The province has deployed 2,880 community digital technology teams consisting of over 20,000 members. These teams provide tailored support, using culturally appropriate communication methods to help residents access internet services, promote local products, and manage administrative tasks, ultimately aiming to foster technological independence.
