Digital platforms drive electoral harassment in Brazil

A study conducted by the Superior Labor Court (TST) and the Superior Council of Labor Justice (CSJT) indicates that digital platforms play a leading role in contemporary forms of electoral harassment within Brazilian labor relations. The research highlights that digital tools allow political pressure to extend beyond the physical workplace, penetrating workers' private lives and social or family circles.

Analyzing 695 processes distributed between May 2023 and June 2024, the study categorized harassment into several axes, including psychological terror (81.9%), virtual methods (67.3%), and economic pressure (61.6%). Within the digital scope, WhatsApp was identified as a primary medium in 37% of cases, while Facebook and Instagram were used in 14.5% of instances. The report emphasizes the importance of digital evidence, such as messages and audio recordings, to complement witness testimony in legal proceedings.
