Digital technology and AI transform classroom learning models

The landscape of early childhood education is undergoing a significant transformation as traditional tools like chalkboards and whiteboards give way to interactive digital screens. This shift responds to a new generation of students who possess digital familiarity prior to formal literacy.

During the fourth edition of the Meeting of Educators of the 21st Century in Rio de Janeiro, UNESCO consultant Daniela Costa emphasized that the expansion of technological resources, particularly artificial intelligence, requires more than just providing equipment. She argued that educational planning must focus on developing critical thinking and meaningful learning to ensure students use these tools consciously.

Costa highlighted that the debate has moved beyond simple digital inclusion toward a need for critical and reflective use of technology. While noting the pedagogical gains, she stressed the importance of understanding the risks and opportunities presented by digital tools in the classroom.
