DIICOT investigates transport firms in 1.7-ton drug trafficking ring
DIICOT prosecutors are investigating five companies, including an international transport firm, for their alleged involvement in a pyramidal organized crime group responsible for trafficking over 1.7 tons of drugs.
According to investigators, the group operated from September 2023, using transport companies to create a veneer of legality for shipments containing hundreds of kilograms of cannabis resin, cannabis, and cocaine. The network reportedly procured drugs in Spain and transported them to various European states.
The operation functioned by receiving orders from Albanian traffickers, after which leaders in Romania coordinated secondary members to manage drivers and vehicles. The group also allegedly provided legal assistance to drivers caught by authorities in other countries. The investigated legal entities provided the tractors and semi-trailers used to conceal the narcotics alongside legitimate commercial goods.
