Dijon apartment fire kills one and injures three

A violent fire broke out on the night of 4‑5 July in a five‑storey apartment on boulevard de la Marne in Dijon, France. The blaze completely destroyed a 50‑m² flat on the fifth floor, killing one resident and hospitalising three others with smoke inhalation. A total of 31 people were affected: the victim, the three injured, and 27 other residents who were evacuated and later accommodated by the city’s social services.

Firefighters from eight local stations deployed 48 personnel, four ambulances and multiple fire engines to control the flames and prevent spread to other units. The operation was deemed successful in containing the fire. Mayor Nathalie Koenders praised the swift response, confirmed an investigation into the cause, and pledged housing support for displaced occupants. The opposition Rassemblement Dijonnais also issued condolences.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities seek to determine the fire’s origin.
